Dustin, Your work inspires me. How do you achieve the surface subtleties? This is something I've been trying to work on in my own work. Yes, I was part of Dave Higgin's show...I've been in too many in this region. --I'm in the one that Brian Keeler curated, too...down at the Laura Craig Gallery in Scranton. There's the academic side of being a fine artist: museum and college shows. Then there's the commercial side...making some bucks through one's ability to make a painting that someone wants to buy! I'm in 7 fairly good galleries, but you know the old story, the competition is tough. There are many very talented painters, and few sales to go around. I see that you live down in Corning. Marti Poole is quite a strong painter from that area. Who are you connected with down in your region?
Yes Hall I know David H. and paint with him and Tom B. every Sat in a group. There are a few others that are regular. Marty doesn't come very often any more. He's a terrific painter, one of my favorite living artist, and a good friend. I feel fortunate to know him. David Higgins and Tom Buechner have also been great sources of info and inspiration. I wouldn't be painting full-time had they not encouraged and supported me. I owe them much thanks. I am presently in one gallery... West End Gallery in Corning NY. I keep planning to seek out more but I never get to it. At the moment, commissions are keeping me very busy. Dustin
